Telegram download & install FAQ

Everything users ask before hitting Install. Skim the answers, then head to the download center to grab the right binary for your device.

Is the Telegram installer on this site the official version?+
Yes. All installers are mirrored from Telegram's official release channels (desktop.telegram.org, macos.telegram.org, telegram.org/android). Nothing is repackaged, re-signed or bundled with additional software.
Can I use Telegram without a phone number?+
You need a phone number to create an account. Telegram Premium and Fragment let you sign in with an anonymous number so your real phone stays private after the first login.
Does Telegram store my messages in the cloud?+
Regular chats are stored encrypted on Telegram's distributed cloud so they can sync across devices. Secret chats are end-to-end encrypted and never touch the cloud - they live only on the paired devices.
How much mobile data does Telegram use?+
Text chats are extremely light - tens of KB per conversation. Media uses whatever bandwidth you allow via Settings > Data and Storage, where you can cap auto-downloads on cellular versus Wi-Fi.
How do I turn on two-step verification?+
Open Settings > Privacy and Security > Two-Step Verification, set an additional password and store a recovery email. From then on new devices need both an SMS code and this password to sign in.
Why is my Telegram download slow?+
Downloads route through the closest Telegram data centre. If the initial connection is slow, try switching Wi-Fi, tethering from mobile data or clicking the download button again to pick up a different mirror.
How do I migrate Telegram to a new device?+
Sign in on the new device with the same phone number. Cloud chats, media and channels sync automatically. Secret chats stay on the old device - move them intentionally before wiping it.
Does Telegram support voice and video calls?+
Yes. One-to-one voice and video calls, group voice chats and video conferences up to 1,000 participants are supported on every desktop and mobile edition.
