Why the desktop app is worth installing
Telegram for Windows offers a first-class desktop experience - persistent multi-account tabs, drag-and-drop uploads, hardware accelerated media playback and window pinning. It is the best fit for people who chat, share files or manage channels from a laptop or PC every day.
- Real desktop shortcuts. Assign Alt+shortcut keys, pin specific chats to the taskbar and jump between accounts with Ctrl+Tab.
- Independent chat windows. Right-click any conversation and open it in its own window for multitasking across monitors.
- Native notifications. Uses the Windows action center, respects Focus Assist and Do Not Disturb schedules.
- Storage controls. Cap the local cache, auto delete downloaded media or pin only the files you actually need offline.
Install Telegram Desktop step by step
Step 1
Run the signed setup
Double-click the downloaded tsetup file. Windows SmartScreen recognises the Telegram FZ-LLC signature and marks the installer as safe.
Step 2
Choose install directory
The default location under %ProgramFiles% works for most users. Pick a portable folder instead if you plan to run Telegram from a USB drive.
Step 3
Log in with your phone
Enter your phone number, type the code we send you via SMS or an active Telegram session, and your cloud chats appear within seconds.
Step 4
Turn on two-step verification
Head to Settings > Privacy & Security > Two-Step Verification to add a password on top of the login code - highly recommended.

Update and safety notes
Telegram Desktop pushes silent updates when a new version ships. You can also open Settings → Advanced → Version and press Check for updates. If SmartScreen flags the installer, verify the digital signature is issued to Telegram FZ-LLC and continue - the mirror does not re-sign or repack the binary.
